FAQ

FAQ'S Gutter Guard Hobart

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Gutter Guard King Tas gutter mesh has a 15-year warranty and we also provide a 15-year workmanship guarantee. Our product is manufactured in Australia and meets the strictest building standards and building codes available.

Will I need to maintain it?

Installing gutter mesh will significantly reduce the volume and frequency of maintenance required for your gutters and roof. On sloped roofs, the mesh slope and over-the-gutter design will ensure that most leaves and debris are blown off the roof and mesh by the wind.

However, no gutter protection system is completely maintenance-free, so you will still need to occasionally check and clean your mesh and gutters to remove debris caught on the edge of your mesh or saddles, fine debris that may have collected in your gutters, or leaves and debris that cannot “self-clean” due to your roof slope or gutter type.

Do not remove gutter mesh to carry out maintenance.

We recommend engaging maintenance professional to clean your gutters and mesh as they have the right equipment, experience and training to do so safely. If you choose to maintain your gutters and mesh yourself, take appropriate safety precautions first.

  • Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and protective non-slip footwear.
  • Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery.
  • Keep your work area clean and orderly.
  • Keep children away.
  • When using a ladder, follow the manufacturer’s instructions or seek professional advice.
  • Do not over-reach.
  • Stay alert. Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. If in doubt, seek help before proceeding.

Use a leaf blower to remove leaves and debris from on top of your roof and gutter mesh.

If there is any build-up of sediment or fine debris inside your gutters, use a normal pressure hose (through the mesh) to flush it out.

Keep in mind that gutter mesh on flat roofs and box gutters will require more frequent maintenance, as their location and/or pitch make it difficult for leaves and debris to blow off the roof and mesh. If you have trees that drop large volumes of debris, you may also need to conduct more frequent maintenance. Installing gutter mesh will significantly reduce the volume and frequency of maintenance required for your gutters and roof.

I live in a high bush-fire prone area do you have a gutter mesh system that suits?

Yes. Our ember guard is specifically designed for bush-fire prone areas and is a custom made gutter guard solution that suits all roof types and is bush-fire compliant – conforms to AS3959-2009

What's the difference between gutter guard and ember guard?

A gutter guard such as gutter mesh is designed to keep leaves out of your gutters.

Ember guards are designed to stop burning embers from getting into your home through gaps greater than 3mm. They can be made from a non-combustible mesh or perforated sheet with an aperture of 2mm or smaller.

Ember guards are mandatory for all new homes built in a bushfire-prone area with a BAL of 12.5 or higher. They’re used to “seal” any gaps greater than 3mm, such as gaps around your roof sheeting.

For homes in areas with a BAL of 12.5, 19 or 29, ember guards can be manufactured from corrosion-resistant steel, bronze or aluminium.

For homes in areas with a BAL of 40 or higher, only corrosion-resistant steel or bronze ember guards are allowed.

Will it keep birds, possums and vermin out of my gutters and getting under the roof?

Yes. Gutter Guard King Tas gutter mesh when installed, seals off the guttering system so nothing should enter (unless they eat metal?). The only way ‘vermin’ can get in is up the inside of down-pipes.

When it rains heavily will water still get into my gutters or just run straight off onto the ground?

That’s what we call ‘water sheeting’. With our diamond profile mesh, it is designed for maximum water capture. To be honest, in extreme rainstorms even without gutter guard mesh water will still overflow the gutters and run off to the ground (and that’s what they are designed to do anyway).

Our main water supply is our water tank; will the gutter guard mesh restrict valuable water into our tanks?

No. Our Gutter Guard mesh has a diamond profile which is specially designed to allow better water capture, meaning water easily enters the gutter and into your tank, providing clean water for your home.

What types of roofs can you install gutter guard on?

Tile roofs all profiles, metal roofs (corrugated, trimdek, kliplok, spandek) for both residential and commercial properties.

I am building a house (or have house plans) can you quote from my plans?

Yes. We often quote for builders and are happy to quote off a plan if you send them through for us to review.

How do I pay?

Credit card, Paypal, cash or bank transfer. We are also exploring afterpay options.

How much does it cost?

Each house needs to be quoted to give an exact fixed price. It depends on many factors like the roof type, low set or multiple levels, total length of the job, the type of gutter guard that is needed for your particular needs, and more. Please just request a free measure and quote and we will be more than happy to give you an exact fixed price with no surprises.

Do I need to be home?

No. We bring everything we need and don’t need to use your power.

Do you clean my gutters before installing or do I have to do that myself?

Yes. We clean your gutters for you just before we install the gutter mesh so you have leaf free gutters. We also offer a free solar panel clean if you have solar panels installed.

How long does it take to install?

Each job is different. Generally, most jobs are completed within a 1-2 days

Do Gutter Guards Actually Work?

There is a misconception that gutter guards don't work. If your objective is to keep your gutters free of birds, leaves and debris or to help protect your gutters from fire embers, then yes they work. The problem arises when the customer isn't educated about their gutter guard installation. Your gutters should be still maintained once you have a gutter guard installed. It is just a matter of monitoring annually to see if there is a build-up of silt. If there is then simply hold the hose above the mesh and flush the gutters out towards the down-pipe. In most cases when it rains this process occurs naturally.
